Hello and welcome to my site...

I'm Charlotte, an experienced trauma-informed psychotherapist offering short and long-term therapy remotely or face:face in Stockport town centre.

If you are struggling with; unhealthy relationships, saying no to people, burn-out, people-pleasing, perfectionism, imposter-syndrome or just not feeling good enough, then I can help you address and overcome these difficulties to support you in living the life you truly want to live - with confidence, self-acceptance and kindness towards yourself.

Alternatively if you are a therapist struggling to practice what you preach and looking to address your own difficulties or increase your insight and awareness of what makes you tick or feel triggered, I can help you explore these areas through a non-judgemental, down-to-earth and integrative approach.

I hope you find the content of my website informative to help determine if the therapy I offer can help you.  You can also find and follow me on instagram to get more of a feel of whether I am someone you would like to work with.

Do you want to feel better about yourself and more confident?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an effective therapy to help with issues such as these and is the recommended treatment for a number of other emotional difficulties including; anxiety, panic attacks and phobias

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy / EMDR

Have you experienced something that you are struggling to process?

Perhaps you have noticed the need to avoid certain 'triggers' to an upsetting memory and it is starting to impact your life?

You might be experiencing bad dreams about an incident and finding yourself replaying events in your mind.

Trauma-focused therapy is an evidence-based therapy helpful in addressing difficulties such as these and can be really helpful to address the underlying cause of anxiety, depression and low self-esteem.

Accredited by the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies
Schema
Therapy

Have you been in therapy before and felt like it hasn't been particularly effective?

Or perhaps you felt the benefit at the time but it didn't last?

Did you 'get' it but not quite 'feel' it?

Perhaps you notice you feel worse when in relationships or find it hard to express what you need or want from those around you?

Schema Therapy goes deeper than CBT and can be helpful to identify and explore longstanding unhelpful patterns of relating to yourself and others, thought patterns, emotional responses and coping strategies that may be limiting you.

Through researched therapy techniques it can help you instigate the changes you need to live a more fulfilling and enriching life

My Approach

It is not uncommon for people to find the prospect of therapy daunting and to have certain ideas or images about what to expect from a therapy session.

When you enter therapy with me you aren't expected to lead the conversation and fill the silence and you certainly won't be expected to lie on a couch whilst I psychoanalyse you! Instead, my focus is putting you at ease, guiding the conversation when necessary and managing your expectations for therapy whilst emphasising my non-judgmental, genuine and approachable nature.

I often work with people who may describe themselves as one or more of the following:

  • high achievers

  • people pleasers

  • approval-seekers

  • perfectionists

  • wanting to overcome imposter syndrome

  • wanting to increase their self-esteem

  • struggling to treat themselves with the same kindness they give to others.

I provide therapy to fellow therapists who might be struggling with their own difficulties and/or are curious about learning more about themselves  - what makes them tick or feel triggered.

I am by no means overly formal within my approach and clients often report finding it reassuring and beneficial that I am professional yet down-to-earth and genuine.

About me

I am a fully qualified and accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist incorporating elements of Schema Therapy and EMDR and other helpful approaches to tailor therapy to the needs of the individual.

I have a special interest in trauma and I am passionate about helping people explore and overcome adverse past experiences that continue to impact their lives in the present

When I see clients I am interested in 'what has happened to you?' rather than 'what is wrong with you?' as I'm very much of the belief that the things we go through in life influence the way we view ourselves, other people and the world around us and ultimately how we live our life.

Originally working within the mental health including substance use field of the NHS, I now run my own private practice accepting referrals from individuals, insurers, organisations, medico-legal companies and EAPs

I am also qualified to help people who feel their engagement in certain sexual activities/behaviours are out of control and  having a negative impact on their lives - they may describe this as a sex, porn or love addiction
