Trauma-focused Therapy

Trauma-focused therapy - whether it be CBT or EMDR, is focused on helping people process distressing memories and come to terms with difficult experiences they may have been through. These experiences may be recent ones or ones that occurred years or decades ago.

The therapy I provide has been researched and is evidenced as being effective in the treatment of trauma.

When people have experienced a traumatic event they can experience 'side effects' but these can vary widely between individuals.  Some of the symptoms or 'side effects', trauma-focused therapy can help with include:

  • Flashbacks

  • Nightmares

  • Anxiety - physical symptoms and emotional distress

  • Feeling on edge

  • Avoidance

  • Feeling detached

  • Difficulty sleeping

  • Concentration difficulties

  • Irritability

Often when people have been through traumatic experiences they stop doing certain things and avoid potential 'triggers' - this can lead to people becoming more withdrawn and losing confidence and thus, they no long feel like themselves.  A big part of trauma-focused therapy is the emphasis on you getting back control i.e. reclaiming your life rather than your life feeling controlled by the memory of what you have been through.

I realise it may feel scary to reach out and say you have been through something traumatic however please be assured I am here to help you feel as comfortable as possible.  If you have any questions or want to see if this therapy can help, please complete the contact form
